Maclears Beacon Loop

Comments Off on Maclears Beacon Loop

A hike for those who don’t like any of the uphill or downhill parts of hiking, this one is an almost completely flat walk with excellent views and amazing photo opportunities. There is a +/-10m downhill and then uphill again on this route so it is not 100% flat but 90% of the trail is flat. This is a great route for those who are interested in hearing all the information about Cape Town and the fynbos while getting extraordinary views, but not having to do any hard work to get them. You’ll start by taking the cable car up and down Table Mountain. Once on top, you’ll be guided along while seeing amazing vistas of the backside of Table Mountain including the Hely-Hutchison Reservior and the rest of the Cape Peninsula on a clear day. It takes about an hour to reach the highest point on Table Mountain, Maclears Beacon at 1085m. From here you’ll relax and take in the sights, then head around to the front side of the loop back to the Cableway. This side offers spectacular views of Cape Town below, Devils Peak, Lions Head, the West Coast and the Winelands.

One reason to choose this hike: You want the amazing views and photos but don’t want to do anything strenuous to get them.

Time: +/-3 hours hiking (+/-5 hours door to door as Cableway can take time)

Cost: R950 per person (+R700 for the group to have a privately guided hike or +R700 single supplement if applicable). Rates valid until August 31, 2020.

Included: Pick up and drop off from your accommodation in Cape Town’s City Centre and Atlantic Seaboard areas.

Excluded: Roundtrip Cableway fee (R360 per adult/R180 per child under 17 years) payable before hand on

Let us know if you’d like to purchase a lunchbox from us for R150 per person. Included: a sandwich or wrap, seasonal fruit, snacks and 2 liters of water to keep your energy up along the way. Or purchase a snack pack which is all of the above minus the sandwich for R110 per person. We are happy to accommodate any dietary requirements you may have, just let us know when you book. Feel free to bring your own food and water if you prefer for the trail. Here is another option to keep in mind…there is a cafeteria style restaurant at the top of Table Mountain (only open when the Cablecar is functioning). This offers basic hot and cold food options in a touristy area. Please note: if you wish to dine at the restaurant our tour will end here and you can make your own way home after spending time at the top & the restaurant. There are taxis readily available at the base of Table Mountain, or you can order an Uber using the free Wifi at the top of Table Mountain in the Wifi Lounge. Uber usually arrives within +/-5 minutes.
