Platteklip Gorge to the Cableway

Comments Off on Platteklip Gorge to the Cableway

This is the quickest (other than the cable car) and most traveled path to get to the summit of Table Mountain. It also means there is likely be a lot of other hikers on the trail. The route follows a steep path up rocky steps with very little shade until the top section of the gorge is reached. The best time for this hike is in the mist or even a bit of drizzly weather when the mystical, magical mystery of this route comes to life. This is a strenuous hike and even more so in the summertime heat so starting early is recommended. There are sweeping views of the City below and Table Bay in the distance. Once you reach the top there is an option to hike to the highest point on Table Mountain, Maclear’s Beacon. Upon your return you’ll descend down via the Cableway, weather permitting.

One reason to choose this route: If you are short on time and want to get to the top in the most direct, fastest way.

Time: 3-4 hours (5-6 hours with Maclears Beacon Loop added on)

Cost: R850 per person (+R500 for the group to have a privately guided hike or +R500 single supplement if applicable). R1100 per person for Platteklip & Maclears Beacon Loop together. Rates valid until August 31, 2018.

Includes: Pick up and drop off to and from your accommodation in Cape Town’s City Centre or Atlantic Seaboard areas.

Excludes: Cableway fee (R150 per person), R200 per person to walk down Platteklip in the event the Cableway is closed due to high wind.

Let us know if you’d like to purchase a lunchbox from us for R150 per person that includes a sandwich, seasonal fruit, snacks and 2 liters of water to keep your energy up along the way. Or purchase a snack pack for R110 per person which is all of the above minus the sandwich. We are happy to accommodate any dietary requirements you may have.
