Platteklip Gorge

Comments Off on Platteklip Gorge

This is the quickest (other than the cable car) and most traveled path to get to the summit of Table Mountain. It also means there will most likely be a lot of people on the trail. The hike follows a steep route up rocky steps with very little shade until the top section of the gorge is reached. The best time for this hike is in the mist or even a bit of drizzly weather when the mystical, magical mystery of this route comes to life. This is a strenuous hike and even more so in the summertime heat so starting early is recommended. There are sweeping views of the city below and Table Bay in the distance. Once we reach the top we have an option to hike to the highest point on Table Mountain, Maclear’s Beacon. Upon our return we descend down the Cableway, weather permitting.

One reason to choose this route: If you are short on time and want to get to the top in the most direct, fastest way.

Time: 3-4 hours

Cost: R750 per person (+R400 for the group to have a privately guided hike or +R400 single supplement if applicable)

Includes: Pick up and drop off to and from your accommodation in Cape Town’s city centre.

Excludes: Cableway fee (R135 per person)

Let us know if you’d like to purchase a lunchbox from us for R150 per person that includes a sandwich, seasonal fruit, snacks and 2 liters of water for the day. Or purchase a snack pack for R110 per person which is all that minus the sandwich.
